Avenue U14’s took on Corinthians from Cork today in the National Cup round of 32. Corinthians started strongly and tested Avenue in the early exchanges. Thanks to hard work by the Avenue defence and midfield the Avenue goal remained in tact. In a fast paced first half Avenue created two chances which lead to two goals scored by Colm Daly and Jason Keane Hayes. However Corinthians continued to pile on the pressure and two quick goals of their own left the score 2:2 at half time.
Avenue started the second half strongly and began to take control of the game. A goal from James Rochford restored Avenue’s lead (3:2) and proved to be the springboard for Avenue to push on. With about 6 minutes to go Donnacha Mullane secured the game with a wonder goal scored from distance and Avenue saw out the game to win 4.2.
Our thanks to an excellent Corinthians team for such a fast paced exciting game. The rain over the last 48 hours made playing conditions difficult and both teams deserve great credit for such a great game of football. We wish Corinthians all the best for rest of their season.
Well done to the Avenue Ballers who March on to the last 16 of the competition.
