Avenue Utd 0 Killmallock 1 Munster Junior Cup 4th.
Avenue Utd were undone in 91st min by a sensational strike from all of 30 yards in this 4th round tie. A cruel blow in a game that could have gone either way.
Avenue started the better and their first chance fell to Eamon O'Reilly whos header was touched over the bar after 15 mins. Kilmallock began to impose their game towards the end of the half and had a succession of chances over a 10 min period. Avenue had Conor Mullen to thank after he cleared a shot off the line. Then a Killmallock shirt found space in the box and headed nanarrowly wide. A mazy run ended up with a Killmallock centre half smashing his shot off the crossbar. Credit to Avenue they finished the half strong with Alan Roche heading over after a perfect delivery from Dylan Casey.
The second half was a more scrappy affair with both teams struggling to create chances. The first real chance fell to Alan Roche on the 80th minute. Under pressure from a defender after a through ball he shot. The Killmallock keeper met his match and produced a world class save to tip the shot onto the bar. The game seemed destined to go to extra time until up stepped Barry Sheedy of Killmallock. He found space in the midfield and unleashed a strike from the outside of his boot from 30 yards. It sailed into top corner and there was little Aidan Jordan in the Avenue Utd goal could do. Avenue still battled hard and had 1 chance to level it but unfortunatly Kaylan O'Loughlins volley went over the bar.
Best on the day for Avenue were Mikey Dinan, Conor Mullen and Kaylan O'Loughlin.
