ℹ️Match Report
Avenue Utd advanced to Round 3 of the Munster Junior Cup after getting the better of Bridge Utd in a well contested match at Sixmilebridge on Sunday morning. Avenue created the better chances from open play throughout but Bridge were always dangerous from set pieces. This was the third meeting of the sides in 4 weeks and like the previous meeting in the FAI Junior Cup Avenue were pushed all the way before securing the victory.
The first chance of the match saw Vincent Onouha fire wide after getting on the end of a Dylan Casey free kick after 16 minutes. Bridge went close to going in front from a corner on 24 minutes but Luke Woodrow showed a safe pair of hands to make a good save. Good play from Nnabuike Nneji on 30 minutes created a chance for Dylan Casey who had a shot from outside the box go narrowly wide. The last chance of the half saw Onouha have a shot saved by John Mulready after good play from Witness Odirile created the opening.
Avenue started the second half well with a good run and pass from Witness Odirile finding Elias Kunz in space but he was denied by a great save from John Mulready. Good play from Ronan Kerin after getting on the end of a pass from Conor Mullen created a great chance for Witness Odirile but his effort from just inside the box went over the bar. Avenue went close again on 65 minutes when Nnabuike Nneji headed wide from a Paddy O'Malley free kick. Avenue went in front with 5 minutes remaining when a great ball into the box by O'Malley was finished to the Bridge net by a strong header from Avenue captain Ronan Kerin. Bridge pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but Avenue defended well as a team to see out the contest and secure a place in Round 3 against Tulla Utd.
